Welcome
Camden Voices Online contains extracts of interviews conducted in 2010 as a project of Camden Council Library Service. Full recordings of the interviews and additional images can be accessed in the library collection. The project was made possible by a Library Council of New South Wales Library Development Grant.
Camden Voices is a social history project focusing on individuals who have grown up or worked in the area or live in a place which has or will soon change. The interviews are intentionally informal and do not attempt to be a definitive history of the area or particular subjects. Rather, the interviews are personal stories from the memories of people and their connections with the community. The interviews include differing perceptions and colourful anecdotes.
The interviews were carried out by local volunteers who generously donated their time to the project. These interviewers were trained in interview technique and use of the audio recording equipment. The interviews were mostly conducted in the homes of the interviewees. We would like to thank the following volunteers for their enthusiastic support of the project:
• Jenny Akers • Doug Barrett • Lindy Bell • Bronwyn Burge • Lynne Cairncross • Joanna Carr • Michael Hayes • Janice Johnson • Penny Sexton • Cathey Shepherd • Trish Thornell • Julie Wrigley • John Wrigley
It is hoped that further interviews will be able to be added to this site in the future. If you have suggestions of subjects or would like to be involved contact the library at library@camden.nsw.gov.au
