OBJECTIVE 3
Developing a sense of URBAN PLACE and BUSINESS SPACE

Beyond inhabiting one's own place of residence, it is important to instill in that resident a broader sense of urban place. A sense of place is equally important for business owners and their employees. The special dynamic that is created when an entire community identifies itself as being in a good place in which to live and work, can give rise to an increased sense of belonging, purpose and coherence. This, then, has a major impact on the socio-economic success of the region.
In a rapidly changing world, cultural and creative industries can contribute significantly to a region’s economic growth and development. As well as being utilised to produce unique cultural product in its own right, creative skills can be applied to enhance and augment the capacity of established local business towards new markets and opportunities. Increased competitiveness through innovation and value-adding, as well as being good for the region’s wealth, creates cultural capital from which the community can benefit in all kinds of ways.
GOALS
Rural activities continue in the Camden LGA, contributing to employment, tourism and the local economy. Cultural and creative industries, including tourism, also play a role. Growing and diversifying these cultural industries will add to increased employment and business opportunities.
Beyond established communities, new urban development and business spaces are rapidly appearing and, when it comes to ensuring that these new areas integrate well into Camden as a whole, it is essential to carefully consider community cultural strategies. For example, the production and promotion of art into public spaces as an integral part of the concept and design of new areas - as outlined in the Public Art Policy and Guidelines - will help to reinforce cultural initiatives and outcomes.
An increased sense of urban place and business space in the people who live and work in the area will ultimately enrich the quality of life throughout all of the Camden LGA.
