Joining the Library
Membership is available free to everyone, even if you don’t live in the Camden area. You can join at any branch of the library by presenting proof of your name and current address. There is no minimum age for joining, but those under the age of 18 years require a signature from their parent or guardian.
Your library card can be used at both our Camden and Narellan Libraries.
You can apply for a card in person at either library. See our Application Form for responsibilities of membership.
You can also apply online and a card will be posted to you. This card will let you borrow ebooks and other eresources. You will need to come into a library to show id within 3 months of joining, to keep the card active.
What can you borrow
All individual members can have a total of 20 items on loan at a time.
Most items in the collection have a three week loan period, shorter loan periods apply to some collections. These specific collections are:
- 6 CDs – 1 week loan with 2 renewals
- 6 DVDs – 1 week loan with 2 renewals
- 10 HSC resources – 1 week loan – 2 renewals - subject limits apply
- 20 Magazines – 1 week loan – 2 per title – with 2 renewals
There is a limit of 2 items on the one subject per family. This subject limit is to help us ensure that resources are available to as many students as possible.
Returning your items
You can return items to either library, regardless of whether you borrowed them at Camden or Narellan Library. After hours chutes are available when libraries are closed.
The library does charge fines for overdue items. Fines are charged each time the library issues an overdue notice. Fines are currently set at:
- First notice and second notice - $3.50
- Third notice – $5.00
If you would like a reminder sms or email sent out to you before your items are due, you can subscribe to our Library Elf service. This free service will send you notification that your items are about to become due. Please note this is an international service, and you will need to indicate you are from Camden Library in Australia. (Look for the libraries starting with AU).
Renewing your items
If you are not ready to return your items on their due date, you can extend the loan period for items. Please note items cannot be renewed if they have been reserved by another customer, or if you have $15.00 or more in fines.
You can renew in person, by telephone or via the internet. To renew online you will need your library card and password/pin. Go to MyLibrary to login.
